There’s plenty of anticipation for the upcoming animated film The Super Mario Bros. Movie. After all, the film will be the first big screen adaptation since the infamous live-action film from 1993. And despite the cult classic appeal that film no doubt has for some viewers, many fans are anxious to see an adaptation that’s more faithful to the video games. Now a new trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie reveals how the new adaptation will do just that.
As revealed during this year’s Nintendo Direct presentation, fans can see the new trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie down below. The trailer was revealed alongside a number of other new projects coming from Nintendo – including a variety of exciting video games arriving in the near future. But it’s without a doubt this new footage from the film that’s going to be remembered as one of the biggest highlights from the event.

There’s certainly more footage here to digest than the first teaser trailer. While that did reveal our first look at Chris Pratt as Mario, this newest trailer delves a little deeper into the film’s narrative and the characters we can expect to see make appearances. It’s also worth noting that the art style and animation are both top notch and it looks like a beautiful recreation of the world from the video games. Hopefully fans will appreciate this new effort and we can have the Super Mario Bros. adaptation that we deserve.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. The screenplay was written by Matthew Fogel. The film will also be produced by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo.
In addition to Chris Pratt as Mario, the cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is scheduled to hit theaters next year on April 7, 2023.
