Actor Armie Hammer seems to have mostly been cancelled following a number of allegations and disturbing leaked text messages. In fact, there was an entire documentary on Discovery Plus dedicated to the controversy. Interestingly, however, there is still one Hollywood director eager to work with Hammer again. Specifically, Call Me by Your Name director Luca Guadagnino has ideas for a sequel that he would want Armie Hammer to be involved in.
He stated as much while speaking to Variety about his upcoming film Bones and All. The new film stars Timothée Chalamet who previously starred alongside Armie Hammer in Call Me by Your Name. Of course, Guadagnino apparently has ideas to bring the two back together for a Call Me by Your Name sequel. The two actors previously played lovers in the first film, with Armie Hammer being the older person in their relationship. Of course, given the allegations against Hammer, many would suspect that the sequel would have come to a standstill. This doesn’t seem to be the case for Guadagnino.
Here’s what Luca Guadagnino first had to say about wanting to do a Call Me by Your Name sequel:
“I would love to make a second and third and fourth chapter of all my movies,” he began. “Why? Because I truly love the actors I work with, so I want to repeat the joy of doing what we did together.”
He was even specifically asked about including Armie Hammer in the sequel, to which he answered, “Yeah, of course.” With that in mind, he claims that “there is no hypothesis” regarding the sequel, and “so there is no movie.” His plans for a Call Me by Your Name continuation are “a wish and a desire,” and that he has not made up his mind regarding the film’s potential story. Though he does think focusing on Vanda Capriolo’s character Mafalda would be a fun direction to take. And, given reports that Armie Hammer is now a timeshare salesman, might be the best way to go with a continuation.
As such, it’s unknown if the film will ever get off the ground. And, with that in mind, it remains unknown if Armie Hammer would ever actually be attached to such a project. But if he were – it could mean a Hollywood comeback for the controversial figure.
