Amber Heard’s recent trial with her ex-husband, actor Johnny Depp, was quite the sensation earlier this year. It received widespread publicity and it ultimately went in favor of Johnny Depp. As a result, he’s taken the time to try and reclaim his public image. Amber Heard, on the other hand, has been struggling to file appeals or have the case thrown out altogether. She owes Johnny Depp $10 million as a result of the trial and after trying to use her million-dollar insurance company to cover some of the costs – it seems she only opened another can of worms. Now Amber Heard is involved in a countersuit with her insurance company.
As revealed via TMZ, Amber Heard countersued New York Marine and General Insurance Co. because they tried to have a judge confirm they wouldn’t have to pay her $1 million liability policy. Amber Heard took out the policy to try and protect herself from any defamation claims following the trial with Johnny Depp. But with the insurance company eager to get out of the deal altogether, it seems like things are going to get complicated. Specifically, the insurance company’s argument appears to be “based on the fact the jury found Amber’s committed willful misconduct in her defamation of Johnny — and under California law, they saw that gives them an out in having to fulfill the policy.”
Interestingly, however, Amber Heard argues that the policy guarantees the opposite. As the documents obtained by TMZ suggest, she claims “that New York Marine promised to pay her defense costs and judgments against her up to a million dollars, no matter what.” This is said to be “the unconditional deal she claims they struck with her,” and that “they haven’t lived up to their end of the bargain.” Hence the resulting countersuit made by Amber Heard.
Now the Aquaman star has asked a judge to outright confirm whether or not the insurance company must pay the $1 million liability policy. While Johnny Depp continues to do his best to reclaim his image, Amber Heard is clearly struggling every step of the way to try and fight back. Now there are even more third parties caught in the mix.
