Sony has been hard at work with expanding their shared universe of Spider-Man characters. Now with the release of several films, it looks like Sony will be tackling the television realm next. Specifically, it’s been revealed that Silk: Spider Society has officially been greenlit as their first Spider-Man-related TV series. It’s expected that this is only going to be the first of a multitude of new television shows utilizing Sony’s catalogue of Spider-Man characters.
As confirmed by ScreenRant via The Wrap, the Spider-Man-related TV series Silk: Spider Society is officially moving forward at Amazon. As such, the series will first debut on the streaming service MGM Plus before eventually moving to Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service. It will focus on the comic book character Cindy Moon.
It was revealed that Angela Kang will serve as the showrunner on Silk: Spider Society. Additionally, she released the following statement to tease fans with what’s to come:
āIām beyond thrilled to be joining the Amazon Studios family for this next chapter of my career. I look forward to working with the executive team on diverse, character-forward, watercooler shows for a global audience and am so excited to dive in to my first challenge ā bringing Korean-American superhero Silk to life on screen.”
Of course, as this point in time, a logline for the series has yet to be released. However, ScreenRant notes that by focusing on Cindy Moon, the series will revolve around “the Korean-American teenager” who is ultimately “bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man.” As such, it’ll be exciting to see how the beloved character is adapted for live-action.
In addition to showrunner Angela Kang, the series will be executive produced by former Sony head Amy Pascal. The series also includes Phil Lord and Chris Miller as executive producers. It’s worth noting that Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller are all involved with several other Spider-Man shows that are currently being developed at Sony. Thus fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates on all of these projects as we have them. With both a number of films and shows on the way, Sony is certainly doing their best to match the mainstream MCU.
