Although the Alien franchise is set to expand with an upcoming television series, it’s far from the only project in the works at 20th Century Studios. In fact, they’re currently developing a new Alien movie from Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez. Now it looks like his upcoming Alien film might have found its new star with Cailee Spaeny.
As revealed via Deadline, Cailee Spaeny has entered talks to star in the untitled Alien film. They noted that she “has been the top choice for the lead role for some time following several meetings with producers and Alvarez.” Meanwhile, “execs are going through their process on other cast members.” As such, we should have other cast updates on the project in the near future.
Now, regarding the film’s plot, those details are scarce at the moment. It’s only been stated that “the iconic ferocious race of alien beings called Xenomorphs will be front and center again reigning terror against the humans that cross their paths.” It appears that both 20th Century Studios and Scott Free “made this a top priority after hearing Alvarez’s pitch.” Now that a script for the film has been delivered, it’s expected that the film will be “in front of cameras by early 2023.”
If the Alien film begins production in 2023, then we can likely expect a 2024 release date. This should certainly be a busy time for the Alien franchise given that the television series should be in production around that time as well. Disney’s 20th Century Studios is clearly putting in the effort to get the franchise rolling again.
Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates on this highly-anticipated Alien project as we have them. For now, however, it looks like everything is headed in the right direction. After the previous attempts to revive the Alien film franchise with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, it’ll be exciting to see what Fede Alvarez has in mind for the iconic brand.
