The success of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story proved that the true crime genre was a massive goldmine for Netflix. As such, they recently announced that two additional seasons of the hit series have been ordered. Of course, given the real-world circumstances that inspired the series, many people are upset by this news. In particular, there were already quite a few critics of the first season and how it treated the victims of Jeffrey Dahmer. But now they’ve taken to social media to express their disappointment with the renewal of Monster.
As of this writing, it’s unclear which real-life criminals the next two seasons of Monster will follow. The first season, as mentioned above, followed real-life serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. And, with that in mind, there appeared to be more than a few inconsistencies with how the events occurred in real-life.
Obviously people don’t want to see the same mistakes made with additional seasons of the show. Especially if the series ends up only being produced for monetary gain.
Here are some of the responses to the renewal of Monster and the two new seasons that Netflix will be releasing:
if you were so desperate to watch Dahmer you could’ve just pirated it, nobody would’ve known, you could’ve satisfied your desire to watch the show without encouraging Netflix to make more of it, but noooooo now we have to sit through two more https://t.co/9av3LFNgWf

fr like Netflix keeps making serial killer shows, people keep watching em,then Netflix makes more like, especially with Jeffrey Dahmer literally none of the people who were victims of it responded to Netflix and they keep making more its so sick

Netflix saw all the families of victims say that the Dahmer show re-traumatized them and said “two more seasons” because what is morality anymore

the families did not agree for the dahmer series to be done in the first place and considering how some bits of the stories were just added or miss-told this is terrible news

Can’t wait for Samuel L. Jackson to bring Dahmer, BTK, and the Zodiac together to defeat a reincarnated H.H. Holmes. And the big reveal that space Jack the Ripper was behind it all. https://t.co/lcI6YQaC1Z

we’re gonna end up with a Ryan Murphy freddy vs. jason but it’s dahmer vs. bundy or something equally evil aren’t we

Istg if Ryan Murphy does a dramatisation on John Wayne Gacy, I’ll be sick. His story is one of the worst things I’ve ever heard. It does not need to be portrayed graphically on screen like Dahmer was

Mysteries that are fictional are fine. I actually enjoy solving cases via a movie book etc.
But when it’s real life… I’m over it. Real life is tough as it is. And the victims families of Dahmer have said they’ve been forced to relive their trauma and that’s heartbreaking.

we really don’t need anything more on dahmer or Manson or whatever shit head white man has harmed living, breathing human beings. I’m so tired of people pretending to be interested in their ~psychology~

netflix making a cinematic universe out of serial killers is such a horrible decision, but one that does not faze me because i saw it coming after the success of dahmer https://t.co/AfhgaBwdiu

If you enjoyed Dahmer… there is something wrong with you

We’ll have to see how Ryan Murphy and his team continue to handle the production of Monster and respond to these criticisms. It’s clear that many viewers felt that the first season was disrespectful to the victims of Jeffrey Dahmer and their families – so it’ll be interesting to see what they try to do to rectify that for future seasons.
American Horror Story actor Evan Peters stars in the first season of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story as the titular Jeffrey Dahmer. The cast of Dahmer also includes Niecy Nash, Penelope Ann Miller, Shaun J. Brown, Colin Ford, and Richard Jenkins.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates on Ryan Murphy’s series Monster as we have them. In the meantime, the first season is currently available to stream on Netflix.
