It’s no surprise that Ryan Murphy’s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has been a major success for Netflix despite some controversy. The series was so successful, in fact, that it’s now been announced by Netflix they have plans for two additional seasons. While specific details about the seasons have yet to be unveiled, they will each focus on a different real-life criminal much like the first season did with Dahmer.
As shared via Collider, head of Global TV at Netflix Bela Bajaria released a statement about the news. He also shared that Netflix has greenlit a second season of The Watcher in his statement. With this in mind, fans will have plenty of true crime-related content to look forward to.
Here’s what Bela Bajaria specifically had to share:
“Audiences can’t take their eyes off ‘Monster’ and ‘The Watcher’. The creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan on Monster along with Eric Newman on ‘The Watcher’ are masterful storytellers who captivated audiences all over the world.”
He further emphasized that “the back-to-back force of these two series” has stemmed from Ryan Murphy’s “distinct original voice.” As such, it’ll be interesting to see what Ryan Murphy can bring to additional seasons of both projects. With as many seasons of American Horror Story as he’s been involved with, there’s no doubt that he probably has plenty of ideas to pull from.
“The back-to-back force of these two series is due to Ryan’s distinct original voice which created cultural sensations and we are thrilled to continue telling stories in the Monster and Watcher universes.”
So, despite the controversy, it looks like we’ll be getting additional seasons of Monster from Netflix to further explore other real-life criminals. As for The Watcher, we’ll have to wait and see how the second season of that particular series develops. In the meantime, fans can currently watch the first seasons of both shows on Netflix. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
