It’s become increasingly difficult in recent years to determine whether or not Netflix will renew a hit series. After all, plenty of shows on the streaming service have been cancelled before reaching any sort of conclusion. So, with that in mind, many viewers were afraid that The Sandman wouldn’t be renewed beyond its first season. Luckily, however, it’s been revealed that the Netflix series The Sandman has been renewed for Season 2.
As revealed via Deadline, “the streamer is bringing back the comic book adaptation after various conflicting reports started to surface online.” This should definitely be a satisfying announcement for anyone afraid that the series would be cancelled. Furthermore, they confirmed that the DC Comics’ official Twitter page also leaked the announcement that the series was renewed.
Specifically, there was a “since deleted tweet” which included the following statement:
“The dream continues. [The Sandman] will return with new episodes based on multiple volumes of the Neil Gaiman graphic novel to explore even more stories of the Endless.”
As of this writing, Netflix has yet to comment on the matter. Hopefully we’ll have more details on the show’s upcoming second season soon. The first season follows the character Morpheus who happens to be the personification of dreams and one of the seven Endless. He’s ultimately captured in the year 1916 during an occult ritual, and after 106 years, Dream must escape to restore his realm known as the Dreaming.
The cast of the show includes Tom Sturridge as both Morpheus and Dream. The cast also includes Boyd Holbrook as Corinthian, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Patton Oswalt as the voice of Matthew the Raven, David Thewlis as John Dee, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer Morningstar, Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death.
Fans can currently stream the first season of The Sandman on Netflix. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the series and The Sandman Season 2. Until then, it’s nice knowing that the series has been renewed.
