The Saw film franchise has become well-known for a number of iconic elements – including actor Tobin Bell’s iconic performance as Jigsaw. While his character was initially killed off with the 2006 film Saw III, he’s continued to play a major part in the films going forward. For example, his character Jigsaw is often the catalyst for new copycat killers and as such he’s appeared in brand-new flashback sequences throughout the sequels. With that in mind, it’s been confirmed that Tobin Bell will once again be returning for the next Saw film in 2023.
A press release teased that the new film “captures everything Saw fans love about the franchise,” and that it will keep fans “guessing with all-new traps and a new mystery to solve.” It seems likely that Tobin Bell’s involvement will be part of the growing mystery. Similarly, producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules had the following statement to share:
“What a thrill to be reuniting with Tobin. His performance as John Kramer is part of the magic that made this franchise a phenomenon and his character is an active part of this film.”
After the last few films in the franchise, it’ll be exciting to see how Tobin Bell is utilized for this new Saw sequel. Hopefully this will be a true return to form for the franchise and genuinely deliver what fans love about the franchise as teased. The film is expected to begin production later this month – so hopefully we’ll have more details soon. In the meantime, it certainly seems as though this project is shaping up nicely.
Kevin Greutert, director of Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter, will be directing this new installment of the franchise. He previously edited the first five Saw films as well in addition to Jigsaw.
This next installment in the Saw film franchise is currently scheduled to be released next year on October 27, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional Saw updates as we have them. With Tobin Bell involved, this will certainly be a project worth following.
