The new Dahmer series on Netflix has popularized the titular serial killer in an unprecedented way. So unprecedented, in fact, that Jeffrey Dahmer costumes are apparently now in high demand. Now in response to the skyrocketing sales, eBay made the decision to ban any costumes or accessories inspired by Jeffrey Dahmer. This includes wigs, glasses, and even orange jumpsuits designed to resemble the one worn by Evan Peters as Dahmer.
This was shared via BuzzFeed, where they noted that the costume violates their policies. Specifically, “the company policy states that sellers are banned from listing items that ‘promote or glorify violence’ or are associated with violent individuals, the acts for which they gained notoriety, or crime scenes from the past 100 years.” Indeed, Jeffrey Dahmer certainly fits these descriptions, so it makes sense that eBay would have costumes or accessories inspired by the serial killer banned.
Similarly, Amazon currently has other such items for sale, and it seems like they’re still available at the time of this writing. It’s certainly an interesting situation and shows how much a project like this Netflix series can unfortunately glorify a terrible individual. In any case, the items are banned on eBay so it’ll be interesting to see how this develops. With Halloween almost here, it’s possible that we’ll still see plenty of individuals take inspiration from Jeffrey Dahmer for their nights out on the holiday.
The Dahmer Netflix series has become so popular that it’s already surpassed the record set by Squid Game. As such, it’s possible that we’ll only continue to see renewed interest in the serial killer as well as criticisms. Especially those from family members of his victims.
Evan Peters stars in the series as the titular Jeffrey Dahmer. The cast of Dahmer also includes Niecy Nash, Penelope Ann Miller, Shaun J. Brown, Colin Ford, and Richard Jenkins.
The new biographical series Dahmer is currently available to stream on Netflix. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
