Over the years, the internet has allowed fans to vocalize their complaints in a variety of ways. One example that’s become increasingly popular is the online petition. Of course, regarding popular culture, petitions are largely inefficient compared to what fans seem to hope for. Nevertheless, Halloween Ends has become the latest subject at Change.org. Apparently there were enough fans upset over Halloween Ends, that they felt it was necessary to have a petition to try and have the film reshot.
This is similar to many other petitions that have been launched for such franchises as Star Wars and Game of Thrones. But, as mentioned above, they tend to be inefficient in that regard. Still, though, it gives upset (sometimes toxic) fans a voice to express their frustrations. As for Halloween Ends, it seems many fans were disappointed that the film focused on Corey Cunningham more than Michael Myers.
Here’s what the Halloween Ends petition at Change.org states:
“Halloween Ends was NOT a film that the Fans wanted! This was an Origins Story! The Corey Story! We deserve a movie worthy of Michael Myers & the Halloween Franchise! We love this Franchise whole heartily and this version of a Halloween Movie left us sad, mad, disappointed, and Infuriated. Please give us a movie that shows us what Halloween is really about. Our Apex Predator…. the King of Slasher Movies Michael Myers! This movie gave us a weak pathetic Michael who needed his mask to survive! This isn’t OUR MICHAEL MYERS! Our Killer is Strong , relentless, & unstoppable! Please right this wrong! We beg of you !!!”
As of this writing, the petition has about 2,500 signatures. It’s unclear how far this number will grow – but no doubt many fans have felt the same. Halloween Ends, despite taking a different route for the long-running series, has been criticized by a large portion of the franchise’s fanbase. One can’t help but draw comparisons to another film in the series – Halloween III: Season of the Witch. As such, it’s possible that Halloween Ends will still find an audience in time much as that film has.
In addition, it’s unclear what plans there are for the franchise going forward. Many fans clearly still have an appetite for Michael Myers content. So, with that in mind, perhaps an inevitable reboot is on the horizon. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. But for the time being – it seems like Halloween Ends will be the last time fans get to see Jamie Lee Curtis as the original Laurie Strode.
David Gordon Green returned to direct Halloween Ends, following his work on its predecessors, Halloween and Halloween Kills. The cast for the new sequel includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak, and Kyle Richards. James Jude Courtney will return to play the role of The Shape alongside original Michael Myers actor Nick Castle.
Fans can currently see Halloween Ends in theaters or streaming on Peacock. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates as we have them.
