It’s clear that the release of Halloween Ends is a major moment not only for fans of the Halloween franchise, but for star Jamie Lee Curtis. The film marks her final appearance as Laurie Strode, the beloved final girl that audiences first met in 1978, and it’s an emotional time for all. This is especially evident for Jamie Lee Curtis who was moved to tears at the premiere of the film.
As noted via Newsweek, she appeared at the LA premiere for Halloween Ends after fellow stars Toni Collette, Naomi Watts, Katie Cassidy, and Abigail Breslin paid tribute to her career. Furthermore, the screen flashed with the words “thank you Jamie” while she took the microphone at the Hollywood Legion Theater stage. The crowd went wild with a standing ovation and it was then that she thanked the fans in addition to director David Gordon Green.
Jamie Lee Curtis then shared the following statement which brought her to tears:
“I am grateful beyond words, I can’t actually believe I’m standing here,” she began. “I can’t believe my legacy.”
Jamie Lee Curtis further expressed that her legacy, in addition to her children, is that she “never gave up” and tells the audience to do the same.
“My legacy, except for my children, will be that I never gave up, and I think that’s the most important message all of us can share in every aspect of our lives, always, forever,” Curtis said. “Never give up, never give up, never give up.”
Jamie Lee Curtis starred in the original Halloween film from 1978 and reprised her role for the 1981 sequel, Halloween II. After several sequels without her, however, she returned for the 1998 film Halloween H20: 20 Years Later. After a small appearance in the 2002 film Halloween Resurrection, however, it was eventually decided to create an all-new storyline for her character. This resulted in the 2018 film Halloween which was considered a great return to form for both Jamie Lee Curtis and the franchise. Now, following the release of Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends, Jamie Lee Curtis has finally retired from the role of Laurie Strode.
David Gordon Green returned to direct Halloween Ends, following his work on its predecessors, Halloween and Halloween Kills.
The cast for the new sequel includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak, and Kyle Richards. James Jude Courtney will return to play the role of The Shape alongside original Michael Myers actor Nick Castle.
