Now that Halloween Ends has finally been released, fans are expressing their thoughts on the new sequel. It seems everyone has many mixed feelings about the film. Some fans outright hate it, while others are glad to have something different. Now horror author Stephen King has weighed in with his own thoughts on Halloween Ends.
Stephen King has often given his thoughts on new horror films throughout his career. It’s one of the reasons that The Evil Dead was so successful during its original theatrical release. And, furthermore, he was the reason Evil Dead 2 managed to get made. So what are his thoughts for the newest installment in the Halloween franchise? As it turns out, they’re rather positive.
Here’s what Stephen King specifically had to say about Halloween Ends:
I enjoyed HALLOWEEN ENDS. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it’s–gasp!–surprisingly character driven.

So, although Halloween Ends “doesn’t reinvent the wheel,” it seems like Stephen King is still a fan of the film. As he notes, it’s “surprisingly character driven.” Indeed, many fans have been disappointed that Halloween Ends chose such a direction for its narrative. But the other 50% of the horror community have felt the opposite. After all, for the thirteenth film in the long-running franchise, it isn’t bad to have something a little different. Hopefully once the hype dies down, Halloween Ends can find its place within the rest of the franchise. Until then, it’s nice to see Stephen King share his support.
David Gordon Green returned to direct Halloween Ends, following his work on its predecessors, Halloween and Halloween Kills.
The cast for the new sequel includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak, and Kyle Richards. James Jude Courtney will return to play the role of The Shape alongside original Michael Myers actor Nick Castle.
Fans can currently view Halloween Ends in both theaters and on the Peacock streaming service. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
