Fans are looking forward to next year’s Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels. While we’re expecting a number of stars from both Captain Marvel and the Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel to return for the film, it appears that one very specific Captain Marvel cast member won’t be returning for the upcoming film The Marvels.
It’s been revealed by McKenna Grace, who played a younger version of the titular character in Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers, that she won’t be doing the same for The Marvels. While it would be great to see her return for the film, especially given her growing popularity with such hits as Ghostbusters: Afterlife, it appears it won’t happen this time around. Although she does emphasize that she would love to come back for another Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance.
Here’s what the Captain Marvel actress had to say to ComicBook after being asked about joining the cast of The Marvels:
“Oh, my gosh, I wish. That would be so cool. I’ve always wanted to do a Marvel film. I did do Captain Marvel, but I have not come back since. And if I do, I will be honored. Hey, that’d be cool.”
In the meantime, fans can still see McKenna Grace in her new series A Friend of the Family on Peacock. The series premiered on the streaming service on October 6, 2022. She’s also set to return as her character Phoebe for the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel. Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates regarding McKenna Grace’s upcoming projects and further news on The Marvels as we have them.
The upcoming film The Marvels was directed by Candyman director Nia DaCosta from a screenplay written by Megan McDonnell.
The cast includes familiar Marvel Cinematic Universe stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. Samuel L. Jackson will also reprise his role as Nick Fury for the film.
Fans will be able to see The Marvels in theaters next year on July 28, 2023.
