The fun thing about horror is that any kind of holiday is the perfect backdrop for a new horror movie. As such, fans do enjoy their Christmas horror flicks, and an exciting new take is coming this year. Interestingly, it looks like the iconic story How the Grinch Stole Christmas will be the basis for a new slasher film titled The Mean One.
As revealed via ComicBook, the new film is being described as an “audacious new parody.” The main villain for which will be played by Terrifier star David Howard Thornton. This is certainly an exciting step for the actor, especially after Terrifier 2 continues to make money at the box office.
As for the specific plot of the new Grinch-inspired slasher film…
“The Mean One (David Howard Thornton) is a hairy, green-skinned grump in a Santa suit, living on a mountain high above the town of Newville, despising the holiday season. Young Cindy You-Know-Who (Krystle Martin), whose parents were butchered by The Mean One twenty Christmases earlier, is returning to town to seek closure… but is about to discover that this fiend with a heart two sizes too small is still quite eager to carve the roast beast.”
This certainly sounds like it’ll make a great addition to any horror fan’s viewing this holiday season. XYZ Films’ Manager of Acquisitions and Development Alex Williams seems to agree. Here’s what he had to say in an official statement:
“As a passionate fan of seasonal horror (and the Terrifier franchise), The Mean One is exactly the kind of film that lands on my personal ‘nice list.’ This movie is a stunningly great time with a ferociously subversive turn from David Howard Thornton — and XYZ Films is so proud to be bringing this soon-to-be iconic Christmas slasher to audiences this holiday season.”
Hopefully we’ll get to see some official footage from the film soon. In the meantime, however, this is a great unexpected announcement. The Terrifier films have become very successful modern-day slasher films. After decades of supernatural horror movies taking the center stage, it’s great to see that there’s still a high demand for slasher films as well.
The upcoming film was directed by Steven LaMorte from a screenplay by Flip and Finn Kobler.
David Howard Thornton of Art the Clown fame leads the cast as the titular “Mean One.” The cast also includes Krystle Martin, Chase Mullins, John Bigham, Erik Baker, Flip Kobler, and Amy Schumacher.
The Mean One will be available to view this year on December 15, 2022. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the highly-anticipated film as we have them.
