The new Game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon has been a mostly well-received expansion of its predecessor. Nevertheless, there are some complaints regarding the plot of the series. Interestingly, however, there are now complaints that the latest House of the Dragon episode was simply too dark to see.
The new episode of the spin-off series, titled The Long Night, was helmed by director Miguel Sapochnik. While some fans felt that the dark sequences within the House of the Dragon episodes could have been the result of a technical error – it appears that was not the case. In fact, the new episode seems to have been given the dark visuals as part of a “creative decision.”
This was confirmed by the HBO Max support account on Twitter. One fan reached out to complain about the episode, claiming that they needed “a written apology for literally a whole episode of black screen.” Despite their complaint that the darkness was “ridiculous,” however, HBO Max confirmed it was intentional. Here’s what they specifically stated in response:
Hi Stephen! We appreciate you reaching out about a night scene in House of the Dragon: Episode 7 appearing dark on your screen. The dimmed lighting of this scene was an intentional creative decision. Thanks! ^LL

Luckily, fans should be able to dial up the brightness on their television sets. Of course, that’s still something of an inconvenience, especially when content on television should simply be visible in the first place. One can only hope that the rest of the first House of the Dragon season won’t have any similar instances with darkness. And, if they do, then one can hope that the second season will be able to avoid these issues altogether. On a more positive note, however, it’s worth noting that the rest of the season has been rather well-received by fans and viewers.
Fans can currently watch House of the Dragon as its first season continues to air. The second season of the series has already been greenlit – so stay tuned to ScreenGeek for updates on that front as we have them.
