Fans have been waiting a long time for a game-accurate Super Mario Bros movie. Luckily, Nintendo has teamed up with Illumination to bring us a brand-new movie that will do just that. The new film stars Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy actor Chris Pratt as the voice of Mario, and as you can see in the below trailer, it looks like he’ll be a perfect fit for The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
The last adaptation of the iconic video game franchise was released in 1993. This live-action film, titled Super Mario Bros, has become well-known for its changes to the source material. Of course, as revealed by the new trailer, it’s clear that none of the inventions of that film have been passed onto The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Instead, we’re getting a brand-new movie that’s quite faithful to the original video games.

Hopefully we’ll have more details on the new film in the near future. While it won’t be released until the spring of next year, it’s certainly going to be exciting to see what else will be released in the coming months. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is being directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. The screenplay was written by Matthew Fogel. The film will also be produced by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo.
In addition to Chris Pratt as Mario, the cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is scheduled to hit theaters next year on April 7, 2023.
