Fans are excited to see Charlie Cox’s character Matt Murdock aka Daredevil return for the upcoming Disney Plus series Daredevil: Born Again. The new series will act as a revival and continuation of the original Daredevil Netflix series. It will also follow the events of Daredevil’s cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, his role in She-Hulk, as well as Vincent D’Onofrio’s appearances in both Hawkeye and Echo. It was also expected that Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones would be playing a decent part in Daredevil: Born Again – but a newly-surfaced rumor suggests she actually has a replacement.
It was initially reported by THR that Daredevil would actually be searching for Jessica Jones in the Disney Plus series Echo. And, furthermore, this was expected to be setting the stage for the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series. Unfortunately, due to rumors of scheduling conflicts, it looks like Marvel has allegedly chosen a replacement for Jessica Jones. And it’s none other than another fan-favorite character first introduced via Netflix.
A Twitter rumor claims that Jon Bernthal’s character The Punisher would appear in place of Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones. This would allow the series to reintroduce another Netflix character to the mainstream MCU – something they allegedly plan to do with all of their Netflix characters. So, while Jessica Jones would’ve been the initial plan, it still allows them to gradually reintroduce all of these fan-favorites. As noted by KC Walsh:
I know I was in denial about this but it sounds like another popular character will show up as well due to a scheduling conflict as it appears they will take the rumored role Jessica Jones had https://t.co/MIjs4YAyFc

It was Cape Time podcast host Tom Smith who then insisted Marvel is “re-introducing” their Netflix characters. And, furthermore, this would allow Jon Bernthal to appear in the series – with Krysten Ritter potentially still making a smaller cameo appearance.
Basically Born Again is re-introducing the Netflix characters to the mainstream and they planned to bring in Ritter but there’s a scheduling problem for Born Again. So they needed another Netflix star to fill the role. It’s Jon Bernthal. Wouldn’t be shocked if Ritter cameos tho https://t.co/7OKGnij13Z pic.twitter.com/u2oJnKbmS4

Insider Charles Murphy has also heard these rumors – though he refrained from confirming their validity. But it does appear that they’re picking up steam.
FWIW, I too have heard about the Bernthal buzz. May remember months back I said I was told to pump the brakes on Ritter joining Echo/DD: Born Again. This was why & Bernthal's name was mentioned.
I will also say that I am absolutely not confirming. Just sharing what I heard.— Charles Murphy (@_CharlesMurphy) September 20, 2022
In any case, it’s currently unclear what the overall storyline for Daredevil: Born Again will be and how it ties in with Echo. But it does make sense that Marvel would want to gradually reintroduce their Netflix characters – and this seems like a perfect way to do it. So, while Jessica Jones may or may not be appearing in these upcoming projects, we’ll likely see more of her sooner or later.
The highly-anticipated Disney Plus series Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to be released in early 2024. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates as we have them.
