Attention, attention, people’s republic of Beyond Fest! It’s that time of the year, and the genre-based and all-out good-time film festival is hitting Los Angeles again. More exciting is that this year might be the most epic year of Beyond Fest as the event will show 60+ movies. What’s even better than that, you might ask? The insane minds behind this year’s Beyond Fest have announced their lineup.
First up, Beyond Fest announces their ‘From Tollywood to Hollywood: The Spectacle & Majesty of S.S Rajamouli: Retrospective of Writer/Director S.S Rajamoul’ shows. The announcement states:
“To celebrate its tenth-anniversary edition, Beyond Fest has partnered with American Cinematheque, IMAX, Variance Films, Potentate Films, and the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles to salute the legendary filmmaker with a month-long tribute showcasing his iconic filmography.”
The month-long celebration includes several Indian writer/director S.S. Rajamouli’s most iconic works. Films such as Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion Eeega with S.S. Rajamouli in-person for a career-spanning Q&A, and a special screening of monster hit, RRR. But wait! There’s more!
Additionally, Beyond Fest is bringing the latest and greatest in genre-bending movies. On opening night is the West Coast Premiere of the horror film, Smile, which has an introduction by the filmmaker Parker Finn. At a later date, Beyond Fest will have the World Premiere of My Best Friend’s Exorcism, the West Coast Premiere of Dario Argento’s latest movie, Dark Glasses, and so much more. First, however, I must mention that this writer’s favorite filmmaker will get the Master of Cinema Tribute special.
Also, Legendary director Park Chan-wook will have his films Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Lady Vengeance, and The Handmaiden shown for Beyond Fest tribute to Park Chan-wook. To top off this momentous event, Beyond Fest is having the West Coast Premiere of Chan-wook’s latest movie, Decision to Leave, with the director in attendance.
The festival will be showing all 60+ of their films at the Los Feliz 3, the Aero, Hollywood Legion Theater, and Chinese Theatre IMAX in Los Angeles. You can check out their full lineup here.
