Although the Game of Thrones finale left some fans feeling rather upset, it appears the franchise still has plenty of potential going forward. Especially because the new Game of Thrones spin-off – House of the Dragon – just had a record-breaking premiere. As such, it’s also been revealed that HBO has renewed House of the Dragon for Season 2.
Obviously, many fans had high expectations for House of the Dragon. While it was still connected to Game of Thrones, it did take place about two centuries before the events of that series. This meant that House of the Dragon focused on new characters under the Targaryen dynasty. Nevertheless, it appears to have won over fans. The premiere of House of the Dragon actually earned over 10 million viewers. This amount is higher than any other HBO series premiere ever.
So, as you can imagine, HBO wasted no time in announcing that House of the Dragon was renewed for Season 2. Of course, no other details beyond that for the season have been released. This means we still don’t know when the new season might begin production or be released.
However, we do have a fancy little teaser that was shared by the House of the Dragon Twitter account. As you can see below:

With this early of an announcement, however, it does seem likely that we can expect the new season to hit either next year in 2023 or 2024. It’ll also be interesting to see how the hype for both this new season and the current season grows with this current announcement. The second season was confirmed just after the premiere of the first episode – so we still have a ways to go regarding House of the Dragon and its storyline.
As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates on this series and other Game of Thrones projects as we have them. For now, however, fans can enjoy the rest of the first season knowing the story will be continued.
