The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been expanding a great deal with a slew of new films and television shows. The Disney Plus streaming service in particular has boosted the output of Marvel Studios, with a number of new series coming out every year. As such, the cast members associated with the Marvel Cinematic Universe have grown exponentially. And, as Disney continues its mission to introduce more diversity to its properties, the MCU is introducing more representation with every new project. This now includes the first transgender actor to join a Marvel series on Disney Plus. Specifically, transgender actor Zoe Terakes has joined the cast of Ironheart.
This announcement for the upcoming Disney Plus series comes courtesy of Deadline. Although they were unable to reveal which character Zoe Terakes will be playing in Ironheart, they did note that they are “a transgender and non-binary actor.” This comes not long after RuPaul’s Drag Race star Shea Couleé also joined the show’s cast. Meanwhile, Dominique Thorne has been cast as the titular character aka Riri Williams.
In order to celebrate the announcement, Zoe Terakes took the opportunity to share the news via Twitter.
As you can see below, they wrote that “this one’s for the trans guys n girls n theys:”

It’s worth noting that Zoe Terakes isn’t quite the first transgender actor to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While they are the first to join a Marvel series on Disney Plus, the first openly transgender actor in the overall MCU first appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Home. This actor was none other than Zack Barack. As for Terakes, of course, we’ll have to continue waiting to see who they’ll be playing in the upcoming series. Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates as we have them.
Ironheart will be available for fans to stream via Disney Plus in 2023.
