Although Keanu Reeves has been involved with television productions in the past, he’s about to star in his first major US television role. This is obviously a major step forward for the Matrix and John Wick actor. Furthermore, the upcoming series – titled Devil in the White City – will also involve the participation of Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio.
This information, which was revealed via Deadline, is certainly an exciting update for the upcoming limited series. After all, many fans of Erik Larson’s Devil in the White City novel have been hoping an adaptation would get underway sooner or later. Now it’s great to see that everything is finally starting to fall into place.
In addition to starring in the series, Keanu Reeves will also be involved with the project as an executive producer. The aforementioned Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio will also be involved as executive producers alongside Rick Yorn, Jennifer Davisson, Stacey Sher, Sam Shaw, Lily Byock, Todd Field, and Mark Lafferty. Sam Shaw will also be writing the series and serving as showrunner for the project while Todd Field will be directing.
The Devil in the White City series is expected to consist of an eight-episode narrative scheduled for a 2024 premiere. However, production is not expected to begin until some point in 2023. Either way, it’s nice to see it finally happening. As they noted, Leonardo DiCaprio has been attempted to get this project made since as far back as 2010 when he bought the rights to the book. Martin Scorsese almost directed a previous adaptation as a feature film for Paramount before it fell apart.
As for the setup of the series, it actually focuses on Daniel H. Burnham and his involvement with the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair and Dr. H. H. Holmes who is commonly referred to as America’s first modern serial killer.
Devil in the White City will be premiering on the Hulu streaming service.
