The latest Academy Awards ceremony shocked audiences around the globe. Chris Rock made a joke regarding Jada Pinkett Smith which set off her husband, actor Will Smith. It wasn’t long after that Will Smith retaliated by slapping Chris Rock, and saying, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f-ing mouth.” It was a truly unexpected moment which occurred not long before Will Smith received his own award for Best Actor in King Richard. Now Chris Rock has finally opened up about the Oscars moment.
As noted via US Weekly, Chris Rock acknowledged the Oscars slap while performing at a set at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. He began by calling Will Smith “Suge Smith” and then made the following claim:
“Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face.”
Chris Rock also included an additional sketch about playing the victim. However, he noted that he wasn’t actually a victim and had the following to say about that:
“I’m not a victim, motherf–er.,” he began. “Yeah, that shit hurt. But I shook that shit off and went to work the next day. I don’t go to the hospital for a papercut.”
With that in mind, it looks like Chris Rock is prepared to move on from the issue. It was already previously stated that the two had reconciled. In fact, Will Smith already issued his apology in the past and a recent video apology as well. He claimed that he was both “embarrassed” and that the slap was “not indicative of the man I want to be.”
It wasn’t long after that Will Smith proceeded to resign from the Academy. Furthermore, he’s been banned from all of their events for the next ten years. So with all that said, it’s certainly been a fascinating turn of events since the ceremony occurred.
It’ll be interesting to see whether or not the slap has any other impact in the future. As such, fans can continue to stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates regarding the Oscars and the Academy Awards, Chris Rock, and Will Smith as we have them.
