The newly-released Thor sequel Thor: Love and Thunder was an exciting addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe series for a number of reasons. For starters, it finally brought back Natalie Portman as Jane Foster in a starring role. This allowed her to complete her transformation into the Mighty Thor. Unfortunately, as those who’ve seen the film know (if you haven’t, obvious spoilers), Natalie Portman’s character doesn’t survive the events of the movie. In fact, she dies by cancer that was made worse by Mjolnir. Well, in a new interview, Natalie Portman just possibly teased a return to the MCU.
Of course, nothing is set in stone. It’s very much possible that she will remain in the Valhalla landscape that we saw her enter during the post-credits scene. Then again? It’s always possible that she could be brought back. Whether or not it’s by leaving Valhalla or perhaps a variant of Jane Foster come into play, there’s certainly no limits to how she could return.
And Natalie Portman herself has acknowledged this in her interview with Entertainment Tonight.
First she explained that she was glad her son could enjoy the film:
“I loved that they had it as like a Thor, you know? Thor is a concept, not necessarily a singular person and I’m excited to make a movie that my son likes.”
Secondly, she explained that he really wants her to come back for additional films. Just like many other Marvel fans that desperately want to see Jane Foster return.
“He was like, ’Can you keep doing Marvel movies?’ He loves Doctor Strange a lot. And Thor of course.”
As such, we’ll have to wait and see whether or not Natalie Portman will return and “keep doing Marvel movies.” But, given the complexity of the MCU, stranger things have happened – and it’s just as easy for Natalie Portman to come back. With that in mind, fans will have to stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates as we have them.
For now, however, Thor: Love and Thunder is currently playing in theaters.
Taika Waititi directed Thor: Love and Thunder from a script he wrote with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Thor: Love and Thunder has a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, and Christian Bale. The film also features Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, and Vin Diesel.
