It’s sadly been revealed that legendary actor David Warner has passed away. The Emmy Award-winning British actor has decades of iconic screen roles in both film and television, and this is certainly a devastating loss for the industry and pop culture fans everywhere. It was stated that he died of a cancer-related illness at age 80.
This news comes via BBC where they explained that he “died on Sunday at Denville Hall, a care home for those in the entertainment industry.” They further explained in a statement given by his family that Warner had been sick for the past 18 months. However, they explain that “he approached his diagnosis with a characteristic grace and dignity.”
Furthermore, his family continued their statement by emphasizing that David Warner “will be missed hugely by us, his family and friends,” and that he will be “remembered as a kind-hearted, generous and compassionate man, partner and father.” They also note that his “legacy of extraordinary work has touched the lives of so many over the years.”
Indeed his work has. David Warner left behind a tremendous filmography. For example, some of the genre films he contributed to included The Omen, From Beyond the Grave, My Best Friend is a Vampire, Waxwork, Cast a Deadly Spell, Body Bags, Necronomicon, In the Mouth of Madness, Ice Cream Man, and Scream 2. He also acted in an episode of the fan-favorite HBO series Tales from the Crypt titled The New Arrival. In that particular tale, he acted alongside Poltergeist actress Zelda Rubinstein and helped create one of the most chilling episodes of the show to air.
In addition to these fantastic projects, David Warner contributed to a wide variety of films and shows outside the horror genre as well. He further contributed performances to TRON, Star Trek V, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II, and joined the voice casts of Batman: The Animated Series, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, and Superman: The Animated Series.
