Fans have been expecting Marvel Studios to introduce the mutants from Marvel Comics ever since Disney acquired the rights along with ownership of Fox. It’s only been recently, however, that Marvel has really been taking advantage of these newly-acquired characters. For example, we’ve recently seen the inclusion of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X – albeit a variant – in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Furthermore, it’s been suggested that Ms. Marvel herself is a mutant within the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, according to new reports, Marvel might be announcing a new X-Men film titled The Mutants at this year’s Comic-Con.
This report was further suggested by Deadline when they discussed the likely programming lineup for Marvel’s Hall H panel. The Mutants was mentioned along with other such projects as Fantastic Four, The Blade, and other titles we’re more familiar with like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Marvels. But, of course, it’s the mention of The Mutants that really stood out.
Marvel Studios did announce their plans to revive X-Men: The Animated Series with the upcoming Disney Plus series X-Men ’97. It’s also been suspected by fans that X-Men ’97 could somehow tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or at the very least, the variant of Professor X that we saw from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The new show’s theme song was included in small but important moments from both Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel. So it does make sense if Marvel is planning a big announcement soon regarding their X-Men characters.
As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates as we have them – including any possible announcements regarding The Mutants. It definitely seems like this will be a major year at Comic-Con for Marvel Studios and fans should expect to receive all kinds of exciting details for upcoming projects. Of course, knowing Marvel and Disney, we should also expect plenty of other announcements to make it to Disney’s D23 presentation.
Marvel is scheduled to have their Hall H panel this Saturday evening on July 23.
