Emilia Clarke has become quite the celebrity after appearing in such projects as the hit television series Game of Thrones. While that’s already an impressive feat, it appears that beloved actress Emilia Clarke is currently operating with a portion of her brain “missing.” It appears that Emilia Clarke suffered two aneurysms while working on Game of Thrones in 2011 and again in 2013.
As revealed while speaking with BBC One’s Sunday Morning, “it’s remarkable” that she is able to function. In fact, she claims to be one of the “really, really, really small minority of people that can survive that.”
It’s certainly shocking to learn.
Here’s what she had to say on the matter:
“The amount of my brain that is no longer usable — it’s remarkable that I am able to speak, sometimes articulately, and live my life completely normally with absolutely no repercussions,” she began. “I am in the really, really, really small minority of people that can survive that.”
She further explained the situation.
“There’s quite a bit missing! Which always makes me laugh. Because strokes, basically, as soon as any part of your brain doesn’t get blood for a second, it’s gone. And so the blood finds a different route to get around but then whatever bit it’s missing is therefore gone.”
This first aneurysm occurred in 2011, just after wrapping the first season of Game of Thrones, which resulted in a stroke and a subarachnoid hemorrhage. The actress had to endure brain surgery as a result and after two weeks – she couldn’t even remember her name. It was the result of a condition known as aphasia. Fortunately, however, this condition was temporary for her. Then, in 2013, she had another aneurysm which was nearly ready to “pop.” She was luckily able to undergo a second surgery though – a traumatic one with complications – which still managed to save her.
Now Emilia Clarke is able to continue her acting career while maintaining her health. It certainly is amazing to see how much Emilia Clarke can do with so much of her brain missing. In fact, she’s even attempted to help other people that are suffering from similar conditions. She’s started the charity titled “SameYou” which raises money for individuals who are recovering from both brain injuries and strokes. The actress is currently starring in The Seagull at the Harold Pinter Theatre located in London.
