The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an incredibly humorous franchise. For example, it’s what sets it apart from a majority of modern DC adaptations. As such, fans usually wouldn’t expect to find any kind of dark humor in something like Thor: Love and Thunder. But, as it turns out, there is a joke in the new Thor sequel that has fans accusing Love and Thunder of having the MCU’s darkest joke of all.
The joke is something of a visual gag that many fans might’ve not thought twice about. But one Twitter user pointed out just how dark the joke really is. It all happens once Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie attends the opening of an ice cream shop. The store, which is named “Infinity Cones,” features a giant gauntlet on the roof.
While it might be cute at first – it does seem to have some dark layers behind it.
Here’s how the aforementioned Twitter user explained the dark Thor: Love and Thunder joke:
“A super weird gag in THOR 4 is that you see Valkyrie at the opening of an ice cream shop called “Infinity Cones” complete with a giant gauntlet on top of the shop. Cute in isolation, but in the world of Marvel, seems sort of akin to opening a Holocaust themed candy store.”

It’s possible that it was only ever intended to be a light-hearted visual gag. But, in the context of what has happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it certainly does seem to be a bit darker than that. Especially when you consider this really is referencing an event that’s essentially the MCU’s holocaust. So perhaps the “Infinity Cones” ice cream parlor really is the darkest joke that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has had to date.
Taika Waititi directed Thor: Love and Thunder from a script he wrote with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
