It was announced as far back as early 2020 that a new prequel to Orphan was going into production. The movie was shot in November 2020 and principal photography then completed on December 11 of the same year. Since then, fans have been waiting patiently for updates on the film. Now the first teaser trailer for Orphan: First Kill has been released.
The new film once again stars Isabelle Fuhrman as Esther, aka Leena Klammer. The filmmakers had to use a combination of makeup, forced perspective, and a body double to make the actress appear to be the same age she was when shooting the first film.
Now fans can see in this new teaser trailer just how well they accomplished this feat.
Here’s the Orphan: First Kill teaser trailer:
As for the setup of the film…
“Leena Klammer is a woman suffering from hypopituitarism, after impersonating as “Esther”, the missing daughter of Katie Mauerova and Richard Mauerova. Katie becomes convinced that it isn’t her daughter, while Richard disagrees, believing that his wife is suffering from paranoia and hallucinating. Leena tries to separate them, causing some major problems to the family. But Katie was quick to discover Leena’s dark past and murderous history, threatening her, Leena becomes outrageous, committing her ‘First Kill.’”
It’s certainly an interesting direction to take the film in, and especially to tackle a prequel at all. The first Orphan was released way back in 2009. As such, it’s quite surprising they’d choose to use a film where the main antagonist was a young girl to make a prequel. And cast the same girl nonetheless. With that said, fans will just have to wait until the final release of the movie to know how these efforts have turned out. William Brent Bell directed the film. The screenplay was written by David Coggeshall, based on a story by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and the original film’s screenwriter, Alex Mace.
The cast for the film stars Isabelle Fuhrman who reprises her role as Esther from the first film. Also starring in the film is Julia Stiles, Rossif Sutherland, Matthew Finlan, Morgan Giraudet, Hiro Kanagawa, Doris Wilkerson, Jade Michael, and Kennedy Irwin as Isabelle Fuhrman’s body double.
