It’s sadly been announced that actor Gennaro Anthony “Tony” Sirico has died at age 79. The star was known for roles in such projects as the hit television series The Sopranos.
The announcement was made by the actor’s family, and they released a statement via Fox News Digital. They revealed that he died on the morning of July 8, 2022.
Here’s what was stated by his family in their shared statement:
“It is with great sadness, but with incredible pride, love and a whole lot of fond memories, that the family of Gennaro Anthony “Tony” Sirico wishes to inform you of his death on the morning of July 8, 2022,” the statement began.
And, while the family appreciates “the many expressions of love, prayer and condolences,” they do request that their privacy is respected – which is completely understood “in this time of bereavement.” As they themselves noted:
“The family is deeply grateful for the many expressions of love, prayer and condolences and requests that the public respect its privacy in this time of bereavement.”
As of this writing, a cause of death for the 79-year-old actor has not been released. However, a memorial will be held at the Basilica of Regina Pacis in Brooklyn, New York. The event will be taking place on Wednesday and it will be hosted by Tony Sirico’s own brother, Robert Sirico.
This is certainly a devastating announcement for fans of the actor. Especially not long after the death of another beloved actor, James Caan. As for Tony Sirico, however, a few of his other roles in addition to The Sopranos include Goodfellas, Lilyhammer, Mob Queen, Mighty Aphrodite, as well as Love and Money.
He also lent his voice talents to the hit animated show Family Guy when he voiced the anthropomorphic dog character Vinny. There are several other film projects currently in post-production that will be released with posthumous performances by Sirico. Therefore, it’s safe to say that he’s left behind quite the legacy and fans are no doubt grateful for the excellent performances he contributed to the entertainment industry.
The celebrated and beloved late actor is survived by his two children, Richard Sirico and Joanne Sirico Bello. He’s also survived by his grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives.
