As with every season of Stranger Things, the fourth season of the Netflix hit series has already become a major part of modern pop culture. In fact, one of the biggest moments from the series is when Max escapes Vecna with the use of music. The song which plays during the sequence is Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God),” and it’s been rejuvenated as a modern-day hit.
As a result, Spotify used the song to launch their own Upside Down Playlist featuring songs from Stranger Things alongside listeners’ favorite tracks.
And, as a result, fans can see which song on their Spotify playlist will actually save them from Vecna.
As noted in a statement via Spotify’s newsroom:
“The Upside Down Playlist takes some of your favorite songs and mixes them with a handful of Stranger Things classics to create a vibe strong enough to ward off Hawkins’ most fearsome foe.”
Spotify listeners have been choosing the first song at the top of their Upside Down Playlist to determine which track would allow them to escape Vecna’s terrifying curse. Of course, since it is determined by an algorithm, the results are varied. So don’t expect to always get a track chosen that’s as perfect for the occasion as Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God). As you can see in some fans’ songs listed in the social media responses below:
This playlist makes kind of sense (there are some random songs on there) BUT Monalisa should definitely be first! I’m for sure escaping Vecna with some Afrobeats! 😭👌🏾#Spotify #StrangerThings #StrangerThings4 #strangerthingsseason4 pic.twitter.com/y4UUwRqQbx

Out of all the songs that I’ve played throughout the year, @SpotifyAU thinks that Psy x Suga will most likely save me from Vecna? pic.twitter.com/3Z9FR5Gv5H

It’s certainly interesting to see which songs fans have ended up with. Especially for those tracks that definitely do not blend well with the aesthetic of Stranger Things. Of course, it’s ultimately still a fun addition to Spotify and a great way to tie together Stranger Things with an incredibly popular music app.
It might not be the same as inserting a cassette tape into a Walkman, but hopefully it would be enough to save any Spotify listener from the grasp of Vecna. Meanwhile, fans can currently watch the fourth season of Stranger Things now on Netflix.
