Fans are excited to see what Sony has in store with Madame Web. The newly-announced Spider-Man spin-off will explore the titular character known from the comic books and animated shows. The character has been strongly tied to the Spider-Verse thanks to her clairvoyance, and with that in mind, it seems safe to say that there are plenty of possibilities for this new film. After all, with Spider-Man: No Way Home, we got a taste of just how far Sony and Marvel are willing to go with the Multiverse. Now fans believe Madame Web could be doing the same following speculation that a secret character will be introduced.
As noted via John Campea, he believes that Madame Web is “something else.” Although he couldn’t reveal specifics, he did suggest some interesting possibilities for the new film. As you can read below:
“For a few weeks I’ve heard whispers that the upcoming Madame Web project with Dakota Johnson isn’t actually a Madame Web project at all, but rather something else under the guise of Madame Web (even Deadline has alluded to it) but I haven’t found any proof of that. Anyone else?”
The biggest belief among fans is that Madame Web will actually introduce Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman. While that would already be quite the reveal, fans are also pushing their theories a step further. They believe this could actually be a way to reintroduce Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Fans have been vocalizing how badly they want The Amazing Spider-Man 3 – and now this might be their opportunity. Especially if Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man is used as a mentor or partner for Jessica Drew’s Spider-Woman.
As both Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe continue to grow, there’s no surprise that they’d want to introduce new or familiar characters along the way. But it seems like Madame Web could be one of the biggest films for such secret surprises in the near future.
The film is being directed by S.J. Clarkson from a screenplay by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Kerem Sanga wrote an earlier draft of the script.
The growing cast of Madame Web includes Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, and Tahar Rahim. Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional cast updates as we have them. At this rate, it’ll be exciting to see who else could be added to the growing ensemble.
Fans will be able to see Madame Web when it hits theaters next year on July 7, 2023.
