While fans are excited to see Deadpool 3, the first Deadpool film to be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, audiences are still eager to see how the rest of the X-Men are introduced. This includes Wolverine, of course, who will presumably be played by someone other than Hugh Jackman. It’s unclear who exactly will take on the mantle, however, and now the writers of Deadpool 3 have weighed in on who they think should play Wolverine.
They revealed as much while speaking on The Post-Credit Podcast, where Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick explained the new Wolverine actor should be “someone shorter this time.”
And, while fans would love to see Hugh Jackman play the role again, they certainly have a point if Marvel intends to use someone more comic-accurate.
Here’s what they said:
“Suggestions… It’s gotta be someone shorter this time… So maybe a Zack Galifianakis or Patton Oswalt, someone like that… I don’t know. Look, we don’t have any inside information on that. Even if we did, we couldn’t share it but we don’t… I would honestly go more… an undiscovered person, because Hugh Jackman was reasonably undiscovered the first time and I think there was initial bucking [of], ‘Oh, he’s too tall,’ or, ‘He doesn’t look right,’ or, ‘What is this Australian thing?’ I think that if they’re playing their cards right, they probably should make it someone we’ve never seen.”
Furthermore, they believe that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige knows exactly what they’re doing:
“Oh, don’t worry, they’ll play their cards right, you know, Kevin Feige, he knows what he’s doing over there… he doesn’t need any of our opinions.”
Indeed, while Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are busy working on Deadpool 3, Kevin Feige still has his eye on the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. So it’s safe to say that as long as everyone works together – all of these beloved superheroes and villains will be in the right hands for the future. Hopefully that means we’ll also have more updates on both Deadpool 3 and the next Wolverine sooner rather than later though. As such, stay tuned to ScreenGeek for news as we have it.
