The life of artist Keith Knight was the basis for the live-action comedy series Woke on Hulu. Unfortunately, for fans of the series that were waiting for a third season, it looks like that’s not happening. It’s just been revealed that Hulu has cancelled the series after only two seasons.
This news comes via Deadline, and for those hoping for an in-depth explanation, there isn’t one. It seems likely that the series just didn’t satisfy Hulu when it came to ratings and they decided it was best to cancel the series. As those who tend to watch streaming shows – they know this fate all too well. More often than not, many shows on streaming platforms like Netflix or Hulu tend to be cancelled quite early on. And because they don’t use traditional television metrics to calculate their ratings, fans are often unaware of how well the aforementioned shows performed.
So while there isn’t a reason given for the cancellation of Woke, fans can assume Hulu cancelled it because it didn’t do as well as they’d hoped. Nevertheless, it’s worth pointing out that the series was still well-received on sites like Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, the second season of the series actually has a 97% audience score as of this writing. Of course, the critic scores are so few that there isn’t even a critic rating. So perhaps that’s also a reason for its cancellation.
In any case, there are still other streaming shows to watch in the meantime. It’s just unfortunate for fans of shows like Woke that realize they won’t ever be getting another season.
The cast of the series starred Lamorne Morris, Blake Anderson, T. Murph, Sasheer Zamata and JB Smoove. It was developed by Keith Knight, the basis for the series, alongside Marshall Todd who was also an executive producer alongside Anthony King, Maurice “Mo” Marable, Richie Schwartz, John Will, Will Gluck, and Eric Christian Olsen.
