HBO is currently working on a wide variety of Game of Thrones spin-offs, including the highly-anticipated prequel series House of the Dragon. Now it’s been revealed that they intend to develop a Game of Thrones sequel series as well – this one. however, is set to focus on Jon Snow.
This information comes via THR, where they explained that original Jon Snow actor Kit Harington will return to reprise the role. This is certainly an exciting and surprising announcement for fans of the franchise. Especially for those who’ve been anxious to see what Jon Snow has been up to since the original series concluded.
As they’ve explained:
“The network has entered into early development on its first sequel to its blockbuster fantasy drama: A live-action spin-off series centered on the fan-favorite character Jon Snow, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.”
Furthermore:
“Kit Harington is attached to reprise the role should a series move forward. The actor was twice nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of an action-hero who struggles to uphold his family’s noble values in a brutal world.”
It seems like HBO is using the Game of Thrones brand to take a similar approach to that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or Star Wars. With that in mind, they’re clearly making an effort to develop as many shows as they possibly can. THR further noted that with this sequel focused on Jon Snow, this means there are now seven Game of Thrones projects in development along with the House of the Dragon prequel. So whether fans want it or not, there is going to be plenty of Game of Thrones content coming in the future.
Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates on this series and the other Game of Thrones projects as we have them. As of this writing, HBO and Kit Harington’s representatives have yet to comment.
