The new film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness featured a variety of exciting characters, cameos, and Easter eggs throughout its runtime. Of course, some fans might’ve expected even more Easter eggs to have been unveiled, especially considering some of the rumors spread ahead of the film’s release. Nevertheless, it turns out that there are still a few surprises that audiences missed. For example, the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness VFX team recently spoke about some of the worlds they created for the film. These worlds featured throughout Doctor Strange 2 include one surprising Iron Man Easter egg.
In particular, there’s a world that seems to consist of endless mechanical pipes. If one pays attention closely, they’ll notice drones that actually have the name “STARK” painted over them. The design of the drones, however, are quite similar to the drones that Quentin Beck uses in Spider-Man: Far From Home. As such, it seems likely that this is a world where Iron Man becomes more villainous than heroic. Perhaps a reference to the Superior Iron Man variant known from the comics?
As noted in an interview with Cinematography World that the film’s VFX team, Framestore, participated in:
“Once we had a first version of our core environments, we quickly realised we needed to add some life to each world,” comments Wajsbrot. “We added giant bees in the honeycomb world, fish to the underwater world, some Stark Industries drones in the pipe world..the list goes on. It was important to make each universe a tangible place, instead of just a background that flashes by.”
It’s unknown if this will have any impact on future MCU films or simply be a subtle Easter egg. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek if we have any additional updates on that front. For now, however, it looks like this Iron Man gag is only one of many fun references in the new Doctor Strange sequel that audiences will have to keep an eye out for.
The newly-released Marvel Cinematic Universe film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently playing in theaters. Fans will then be able to see Doctor Strange 2 on Disney Plus once it begins streaming later this month on June 22.
