It’s been revealed that a new animated Star Wars series, titled Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, will be exploring the backstories of several iconic characters. One such character will be Qui-Gon Jinn – once again played by actor Liam Neeson.
This news was revealed at the 2022 Star Wars Celebration panel by Dave Filoni via EpicStream. He explained that the new series will focus on not only Qui-Gon Jinn, but other iconic characters like Ahsoka Tano, Count Dooku, and Mace Windu. Furthermore, not only does Liam Neeson return to reprise his role as Qui-Gon Jinn, but a surprising actor will be playing a younger version of the character.
As revealed by Dave Filoni:
“It’s this guy you don’t even know, Liam Neeson,” he began jokingly. “But it’s not just him. I had his son play young Qui-Gon.”
While Dave Filoni didn’t specify which son, it’s expected to be none other than Micheál Richardson. Of course, we’ll have to wait for further confirmation, but it seems likely given his equally active acting career. In any case, it’s exciting to see that the life of Qui-Gon Jinn will be explored with so much depth in the upcoming animated series. The character has usually been relegated to cameo appearances following his introduction in The Phantom Menace. So seeing more of his story will be a true treat for Star Wars devotees.
With other characters like Ahsoka and Count Dooku getting a similar treatment, Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi will definitely be worth keeping an eye out for. The upcoming animated series Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi does not yet have an official release date. But now that the series has been revealed, we can expect more details in the near future. As such, stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates on Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi as we have them.
