Although Donald Trump recently put effort into launching Truth Social, a social media application that didn’t quite take off, they’re now looking into developing a streaming service. In particular, Trump Media apparently hopes to acquire “canceled” and “non-woke” content for this streaming application dubbed TMTG+.
As revealed via THR:
“TMTG+ intends to offer programs including, but not limited to blue collar comedy, cancelled shows, Trump-specific programming, faith-based shows, family entertainment, shows that embrace the Second Amendment, and news,” the securities filing for the service says. “TMTG intends to license, produce, and deliver news, sports, and non-woke entertainment content through this platform.”
As they’ve noted, however, there is a bit of a contradiction with their intentions:
“Though similar to Netflix, Disney+, and other current offerings, TMTG intends to produce or acquire entertainment simply for entertainment’s sake… TMTG will not censor the creators of entertainment for TMTG+, nor will it insist that its programming push some particular political ideology.”
The contradictions continue with saying that they hope to focus on “conservative and/or libertarian views” as noted below:
“TMTG+ will provide a platform for conservative and/or libertarian views, and otherwise cancelled content from other broadcast television and/or digital streaming platforms,” the filings stated.
Interestingly, the filings also had some conditions surrounding prior president Donald Trump and any potential appearances he might be offered for.
“If President Trump receives a bona fide offer to be featured on any non-TMTG streaming video production or on any non-TMTG podcast platform, TMTG has the right to create a substantially similar video production or podcast opportunity on terms more favorable than those offered by the non-TMTG service providers,” the company explained.
The streaming application is currently in the earliest stages of development, as is any potential content, and it’s expected that TMTG+ won’t be the final name. Nevertheless, this still marks a surprising endeavor from Trump Media and one must wonder how this streaming service will stand up to all of the competition that’s been introduced in recent years.
