Actor Kevin Spacey is no stranger to controversy, and now it appears he’s once more making headlines. This time Kevin Spacey has been charged with four counts of sexual assault in the United Kingdom.
This information comes from Variety, where they also included one count of “causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent.”
They noted that this decision was made by the United Kingdom’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and that they “spent over a year reviewing a file passed to them by the Metropolitan Police.” Rosemary Ainslie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division, included the following statement:
“The CPS has authorized criminal charges against Kevin Spacey, 62, for four counts of sexual assault against three men,” Ainslie began. “He has also been charged with causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent. The charges follow a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation. The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Mr Spacey are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.”
Kevin Spacey has been facing allegations of sexual assault and misconduct since 2017. As for these particular charges, it’s been suspected that they stem from his time at the Old Vic theater in London. Kevin Spacey served as an artistic director there in the United Kingdom from 2004 to 2015. However, Variety also noted the following:
“It is unclear whether Spacey will submit himself to the authorities in London following the charges. His whereabouts in recent years have been something of a mystery, although in 2019 he was formally interviewed as a suspect by the Metropolitan police in the U.S., according to the Daily Mail.”
Although Kevin Spacey was in the midst of appearing in at least two new films, it seems those appearances will likely be put on hold. Aside from the aforementioned United Kingdom charges, Kevin Spacey is still engaged with several lawsuits in the US. Stay tuned for updates as we have them.
