Fans have finally received their first look at She-Hulk and likewise their first full look at Tatiana Maslany as the titular character. While some fans are pleased with her appearance, others have complained that She-Hulk simply isn’t muscular enough. While there are no doubt plenty of reasons for why she looks the way she does, a VFX artist recently put most of the blame on Marvel Studios.
As you can see below, VFX artist Sean Ruecroft used Twitter to explain what happened with the character’s design. Their account has since been deleted, but thanks to CBR, we have the transcript.
They began by stating this in response to unhappy fans:
“I was at a company that did VFX for this. Apparently she was bigger early on, but the notes kept saying to “make her smaller.” We always roll our eyes (like we did on Sonic) but at the end of the day artists gotta follow orders.”
It’s worth noting that while Sean Ruecroft didn’t specifically do VFX for She-Hulk, they were involved with other Marvel properties like Avengers: Infinity War and Moon Knight. Nevertheless, it was still their company that was involved with She-Hulk, and thus it makes sense that he’d know what Marvel would want for the series. As for why Marvel chose to make She-Hulk less muscular, that remains unknown. With fans already making complaints regarding the show’s CGI, and previous reports calling the series a mess, it’ll be interesting to see just how She-Hulk is received this August.
Here’s the setup for the new show…
“This new comedy series sees Bruce Banner help his cousin, Jennifer Walters, when she needs an emergency blood transfusion and guess what? She receives his powers too. Tatiana Maslany will play Jennifer, who is a lawyer specialising in superhuman-oriented legal cases. Mark Ruffalo is back as the Hulk alongside Tim Roth, who plays the Abomination.”
The cast for the series stars Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk. She’ll be joined by Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner aka Hulk. Tim Roth will also reprise his role as Emil Blonsky aka the Abomination from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Ginger Gonzaga, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Jameela Jamil also star.
The new MCU series She-Hulk will be premiering on Disney Plus on August 17, 2022.
