The movie Law Abiding Citizen was released in 2009, having been written by Kurt Wimmer and directed by F. Gary Gray. Now it’s been revealed that original screenwriter Kurt Wimmer is returning to write the screenplay for Law Abiding Citizen 2. Furthermore, original producers Lucas Foster as well as Gerard Butler and G-Base partner Alan Siegel will return to produce the sequel.
This news comes via Deadline. For the time being, however, the storyline for the film is being kept under wraps. With the original screenwriter involved, however, one must wonder what direction they’ll be taking for this new sequel. After so many years, it’ll be exciting to see which possibilities are explored.
They noted that Rivulet Films’ Rob Paris and Mike Witherill will produce alongside Lucas Foster and Kurt Wimmer. Foster will produce via Warp Films while Village Roadshow Pictures’ Tristen Tuckfield and Jillian Apfelbaum will executive produce.
Producer Lucas Foster gave the following statement:
“I am delighted to partner with Rob, Mike and Village Roadshow Pictures, together with my frequent creative partner Kurt Wimmer, to revisit these great characters and this compelling topic which seems even more relevant today than when we made the original film. We’re going to blow your mind… again.”
Similarly, Rob Paris and Mike Witherill added:
“The demand for smart, star-driven action thrillers in the marketplace is palpable, and this is one of those rare unexploited franchise opportunities that was too good to pass up.”
Finally, executive producers Tristen Tuckfield and Jillian Apfelbaum had this to say:
“We’re thrilled to partner with Rivulet on the sequel to Law Abiding Citizen. It’s a title that exemplifies the scope and breadth of the Vine library. Collaborating closely with Kurt and Lucas will lend the creative authenticity necessary to make a film worthy of its predecessor.”
Hopefully we’ll have more details on this exciting action project soon. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for updates on Law Abiding Citizen 2 as we have them.
