A number of shows from The CW have been cancelled recently. Now it’s been revealed Riverdale is the next series to be cancelled. As a result, the upcoming seventh season of the series will be its last.
This information, via TVLine, also included statements from CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz:
“I am a big believer in attempting to give series that have had long runs an appropriate sendoff,” Mark Pedowitz stated. “We had a long conversation with [executive producer] Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] yesterday, who is thrilled by this news, and we will treat the show in the manner it deserves…. We want to make sure it goes out the right way.
“I think they, too, felt that seven years is the right amount,” Pedowitz added. “As a fan myself, I do want to do what is right for the show.”
This means that fans will still receive closure with the upcoming seventh season. Other than that, however, details are unknown with the sixth season still airing. This means the episode count for the seventh season is currently unknown, but Pedowitz does “not believe it will be a shortened season.” As such, fans still might have quite a few Riverdale episodes to look forward to.
The series has become a memorable hit for The CW since its initial premiere. As such, two spin-offs were even released over the years. One such spin-off was The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, a Netflix series which introduced Kiernan Shipka as the titular witch. While that series has been cancelled for several years now, Shipka did reprise her role for the sixth season of Riverdale. The second Riverdale spin-off was Katy Keene. It, however, only lasted a single season.
It’s clear that Riverdale has created quite the legacy and name for itself. Thus the importance of having a proper ending. Hopefully fans will be satisfied.
Riverdale Season 7 will be released in 2023.
