Fans have been waiting ages for Hocus Pocus 2. Now, later this year, fans will finally be able to see the original Sanderson Sisters back to create more Halloween havoc. Furthermore, we now know the official release date for Hocus Pocus 2. It’s been revealed that the Disney Plus original will be streaming this September.
This should give fans plenty of time to watch the new film ahead of Halloween. And it’ll be a great way to kick off the start of October, because the new film will be arriving at the tail-end of September on September 30. This release date was confirmed along with official footage from Disney’s upfronts presentation.
As noted via People:
“Disney announced Tuesday during the company’s upfronts presentation that Hocus Pocus 2— the much-buzzed-about follow-up to the 1993 original that starred Midler, 76, Najimy, 65, and Parker, 57 — will land on Disney+ Sept. 30.”
They also revealed what occurred in the footage shown from the film:
“Attendees also got a sneak peek of the film, featuring the three leads covering “The Bitch Is Back” by Elton John, as well as an appearance from zombie with a heart of gold Billy Butcherson (Doug Jones, reprising his role from the first film).
The clip also showed new characters, including the mayor of Salem, Massachusetts (Tony Hale), another played by Sam Richardson and two girls lighting the legendary Black Flame Candle.”
Furthermore, the footage concluded with the return of the iconic Sanderson Sisters:
“”Lock up your children!” Midler’s Winnie exclaims as the candle’s lighting successfully summons her and sisters Mary (Najimy) and Sarah (Parker). “Yes, Salem, we’re back!””
Here’s the official synopsis for the upcoming sequel…
“It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters who were executed for practicing witchcraft, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to figure out how to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before midnight on All Hallow’s Eve.”
Anne Fletcher directed the film from a screenplay by Jen D’Angelo. The cast for the film stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as the original Sanderson Sisters. The cast also includes Whitney Peak as Becca, Lilia Buckingham as Cassie, and Belissa Escobedo as Izzy. Sam Richardson also stars along with Tony Hale, Hannah Waddingham, Froy Gutierrez, Juju Brener, Taylor Paige Henderson, and Nina Kitchen. Doug Jones will return as Billy Butcherson.
Now that we know the release date for Hocus Pocus 2 is September 30, it hopefully won’t be much longer before the film’s official promotional campaign really kicks off. Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming film as we have them.
