The sci-fi anthology series Black Mirror has already provided fans with an incredible five seasons of creative twists and eerie plotlines. Now it’s just been revealed that Netflix has renewed Black Mirror, giving way for the sixth season of the popular show.
This information comes via Deadline, and they also revealed that the format for this season of Black Mirror will be somewhat different. It’s been revealed that the sixth season of the renewed series will only feature three Black Mirror episodes.
As they explained:
“The sixth season will likely follow the same pattern as the fifth, which reduced the number of episodes down to three but extended them to feature film length, a source confirmed.”
It appears that streaming platform Netflix is now focusing on quality over quantity when it comes to Black Mirror. With the opportunity to focus on three stories and make them “feature film length,” it should be exciting to see where the new episodes take viewers. The longer runtimes will allow additional character development and further exploration of different themes or plot ideas. The series already did this wonderfully with shorter runtimes, so seeing more “feature film length” episodes should be a fantastic addition to the show.
While details for what the new season will consist of beyond that are scarce, it’s likely that we can expect a stellar cast. For example, the fifth season of the show included such names as Anthony Mackie, Miley Cyrus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace, Damson Idris, Andrew Scott, Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff, Angourie Rice, Madison Davenport and Ludi Lin.
The newly-announced sixth season of the sci-fi anthology series is expected to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2023. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for further updates on the new season as we have them. It’s definitely a good time to be a Black Mirror fan.
