Echo has been in production for only about a month or so, but today, Marvel Studios gave fans their first look at the upcoming spin-off series for Disney Plus. Following the release of Hawkeye, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are already familiar with Maya Lopez’s character played by Alaqua Cox, who returns as the lead character in the series.
The series is said to be an origin story for Maya Lopez and is actually rumored to have appearances from Daredevil and Kingpin, something that definitely has MCU excited. The Echo comics from Marvel featured Daredevil, so with the rights reverting back to Marvel Studios, it was to be expected.

When speaking about the show, Alaqua Cox said:
“It’s just so crazy that I’m getting my own show after Hawkeye. That was like my first acting role, ever. I don’t know why they’re giving me this opportunity, but I’m just grateful. I’m excited for the support and being able to advocate for the Deaf community. We want to have that equality and get more people involved. I’m just so grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve been given.”
The actress added:
“It’s crazy how much my life has already changed because I was a college dropout. I worked at a factory. I’m so excited to show people who I am and what I can do, what anybody can do.”
While there’s no official synopsis yet, the Marvel website did give this bit of information:
Streaming exclusively on Disney, the origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.
Echo is expected to hit Disney Plus in 2023.
