The trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder finally arrived recently, and fans are still digging into the footage for any clues about the upcoming MCU film. After all, even though it’s only a few months away, there’s still plenty that remains unseen – even after the premiere of the trailer. Interestingly, however, it looks like the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer might’ve actually spoiled the film’s ending.
As those who’ve seen the first trailer know, the footage opens with a voiceover from Chris Hemsworth’s character Thor. The voiceover plays during a scene where he plants his weapon Stormbreaker in a patch of dirt. Here’s what he says:
“These hands were once used for battle… now they’re but humble tools for peace.”
This is interesting because it seems likely that Thor will continue to use them for battle in most of the film. Especially if he’s going up against Gorr the God Butcher. Furthermore, he’s expected to be using Stormbreaker during all of these battles as well. So why would he be planting it at the very start of the film? Rather, it seems like his decision to put away his weapon and move on from war is something that would happen at the film’s end.
Furthermore, the planting of Stormbreaker may also benefit Asgard in some way. Of course, we won’t know for sure until the final film is released in theaters. But considering the film is paving the way for Natalie Portman to become the Mighty Thor, it would make sense if Thor were giving up the mantle by the ending of Love and Thunder.
Taika Waititi directed Thor: Love and Thunder from a script he wrote with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
Thor: Love and Thunder has a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, and Christian Bale. The film also features Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, and Vin Diesel.
Fans will be able to see the highly-anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thor: Love and Thunder on July 8, 2022.
