Fans were ecstatic for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a film which continued the Multiverse concepts introduced in Spider-Man: No Way Home. While most fans expected Multiverse of Madness to be the MCU’s climactic Multiverse event, especially given the film’s title, that isn’t exactly the case. If anything, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness merely paved the way for many more Multiverse adventures to occur in the future. Now fans are theorizing that the Doctor Strange sequel was merely the first setup for a Secret Wars movie.
This theory certainly makes sense. Marvel has been setting up each phase of the MCU to lead into an epic crossover event. For example, we’ve had films like The Avengers, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame which all acted as major story events. Of course, after Endgame, it was unclear what exactly Marvel could do next for the franchise. But fans believe that Secret Wars would make perfect sense – especially after the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The Secret Wars comic book event featured various different Marvel universes colliding into one another. Each of these events was considered an “incursion” until everything was restored. It’s worth noting that incursions were mentioned in the new Doctor Strange film and that’s why fans now believe a Secret Wars movie is on the way. Ya’ll do realize the point of the Multiverse Saga is #SecretWars ?
Every possible Marvel produced project (yes Fox-Men or Daredevil, Ghost Rider etc) ever will be available for cameos and then every “universe” is morphed into the main 616-universe

As such, it seems likely that this is the direction Marvel will continue with over the next decade. The Multiverse is already playing a large part with their current franchises and properties, so we’ll probably see it expand until the Secret Wars event occurs. When this event is going to happen, however, remains to be seen. But fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any updates on that front as we have them.
Meanwhile, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently playing in theaters.
