There are many reasons why Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is such an exciting release for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After all, the film introduces a wide number of characters and variants that will presumably be returning to the MCU in the near future. One such character, however, might’ve gone unnoticed by most fans. And it just turns out that this character could very well be the villain of the MCU’s upcoming Blade film. Indeed, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness seems to have indirectly setup the future of Blade.
As those who’ve seen the new Doctor Strange film know, the Book of Vishanti plays a large part in the plot. The titular superhero is frantically searching for the book alongside America Chavez. By the time he finds it, however, Wanda Maximoff destroyed the book. But it’s worth mentioning that in the comics, the origins behind the Book of Vishanti actually tie into Blade and thus potentially the upcoming film.
The first owner of the book in the comics was a sorcerer named Varnae. This character was a devotee of the Darkhold’s creator, Chthon. Interestingly, Varnae also happens to become the world’s first vampire. Varnae would continue to spread their vampirism to other humans across the planet, ultimately created the vampire infection that Blade himself is sworn to stop.
While the Book of Vishanti is destroyed, its past isn’t, and if the films adhere to the comics – then the book’s past is closely tied to Varnae. This means that Varnae, thanks to the Doctor Strange sequel, could very well appear in the upcoming Blade film or any number of additional MCU projects. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see what happens as the release date of Blade approaches. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates as we have them.
