After the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel fans were ecstatic for the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. With a film that promised even more Multiverse mayhem, it seemed like there were endless possibilities for the cameos in store. As the trailers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have teased, the film does deliver on that front. Now continue reading for a list of every cameo featured in Doctor Strange 2.
Fans that have seen the aforementioned trailers will know that the Illuminati play a large role in the film. The group is made up of Earth-838 variants which are references to some of our favorite superheroes. Aside from being introduced to Mr. Fantastic for the first time, as played by John Krasinski, there are some familiar faces as well. For example, Hayley Atwell returns to play Captain Carter, a character fans will recognize from Marvel’s What If…? And, similarly, Patrick Stewart plays a version of Professor X not unlike the version from the X-Men films. We also see a Captain Marvel variant that’s actually Maria Rambeau as opposed to Carol Danvers. And, of course, we also get to see the return of both Black Bolt and Mordo.
Unfortunately, the Illuminati is destroyed by Wanda aka the Scarlet Witch. She does this to reunite with her sons, Billy and Tommy, which brings us to the next cameos in the film. As such, it could be said that Billy and Tommy play as much of a role as the Illuminati. Of course, not all of these cameos have heavy impacts on the plot.
For example, fans get to see Sam Raimi collaborator Bruce Campbell for two sequences in the movie. One is a normal scene in which he demands America Chavez pays for the pizza she steals from him. Doctor Strange gets upset with him and casts a spell where he must punch himself for the next three weeks. His next scene is a post-credits sequence where we find out Bruce Campbell’s character, Pizza Poppa, has finally stopped punching himself. It’s a great way to end the movie.
And, last but not least, fans will be pleased to know there is a sequel setup. Charlize Theron is introduced via cameo in the first Doctor Strange post-credits sequence. It’s revealed that she’s playing the comic book character Clea. Fans will no doubt be excited to see how her character and Doctor Strange interact further on in the MCU.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now playing in theaters.
