The ongoing lawsuit between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp has revealed yet another surprise. It appears that the negative headlines featuring Amber Heard’s name have upset the actress so much, she’s gone as far as to fire her own PR team. Interestingly, Amber Heard made this decision to fire her PR team just before her own scheduled testimony.
This information, via NYPost, is certainly interesting. While Amber Heard chose to fire her PR team to improve her own image, it’s clearly going to do the opposite. Especially as fans of Johnny Depp rally against her on social media. Two sources gave the following reasons for Amber Heard’s decision:
“She doesn’t like bad headlines,” said one source.
Amber Heard has certainly been the center for plenty of negative headlines. Especially as a petition to have her removed from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom earns over three million signatures.
Another source said Amber Heard is “frustrated with her story not being told effectively.”
Her previous PR team, Precision Strategies, has been released by Shane Communications. As stated:
“The actress — who is expected to take the stand in Fairfax, Va., as soon as Tuesday — now has consulting firm Shane Communications on retainer to help her get across her side better in the court of public opinion, sources said.”
It’s worth mentioning that Shane Communications has actually worked against Johnny Depp in the past. Specifically, they were involved with the following case:
“The firm helped highlight allegations lodged by Depp’s former business managers, The Management Group, alleging that the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star needed to hire a shrink for his ‘compulsive spending’ habit of $2 million per month.”
Of course, it might not be as easy as a PR switch for Amber Heard. The trial is already in progress and it’s going to take more than a new PR team to reverse the thoughts of millions.
“After years of narrative building, you can’t change the public’s opinion in the three weeks when someone is suing you in a case,” said a crisis management PR insider.
Campaign maven Lis Smith similarly shared these thoughts:
“It’s crazy to change teams in the middle of a trial like this because you don’t like the headlines.”
Indeed, with the trial ongoing, it’ll be interesting to see what becomes of Amber Heard’s reputation. The tables have turned so far, with many fans taking the side of Johnny Depp. Of course, it remains to be seen whether or not Johnny Depp will win the trial.
